Opinion: On Justice in the Philippines and Trump Camp Campaign Tactics By Manuel L. Caballero

ON MY WATCH

By MANUEL L. CABALLERO

ALICE GUO'S DISMISSAL AS TOWN MAYOR SHOWS JUSTICE IN THE PH CAN BE SWIFT; IN THE CASE OF FORMER SENATOR DELIMA,THE DUTERTE  BRAND OF INJUSTICE TOOK 7 YEARS TO END; IS TRUMP CAMP  DEVELOPING LIKE THE 2016 AND 2022  ELECTION CAMPAIGNS IN THE NATIVE COUNTRY DOMINATED BY FAKE NEWS, DISINFORMATION AND TROLLS?

The fast action by the constitutional anti-graft court Ombudsman in the PH removing Alice Guo as mayor of Bamban for her involvement in the illegal activities of POGO in her hometown shows that justice can be swift in the native country. The lady ex-mayor is facing more charges from four different offices of government for alleged varied illegal acts.

All of the above were unearthed by the Senate committee investigation headed by Senator Risa Hontiveros.

There are indications that the Trump campaign maybe resorting to fake news and disinformation?

A week ago, I read a Facebook post saying Pres.  Biden "will return to the political ring. "Lol!

Few days ago, speaking about the rally of Kamala Harris in Detroit attended by 15,000 HARRIS -WALZ supporters, Mr. Trump claimed the audience was created by AI? Hehe. See the photo below. This was done by the BBM campaign in 2021 by using photo of a big crowd in Malaysia in red shirts in a rally photo held in Mindanao.

Stories aimed at demolishing Vp Harris have started to circulate in social media.

Hopefully, America's election campaign will stay at decent and democratic levels.

PH Embassy Brings Consular Services to Pinoys in the Peach State

Consul Barbie Rosales gives a briefing at an oath taking ceremony during the consular outreach mission in Atlanta, Georgia, where 132 individuals reacquired their Philippine citizenship.

The Philippine Embassy in Washington DC successfully conducted a three-day consular outreach mission in Atlanta, Georgia from July 26 to 28, 2024.

The outreach brought essential consular services closer to Filipinos living in the Peach State. Filipinos and Filipino-Americans were able to renew their passport, reacquire their citizenship, report their marriage and their children’s birth, and seek consular advice without the need to travel the long distance to Washington, D.C.

Consular team processing passport applications and overseas absentee voters’ registration. Over 300 passports and 200 voter registrations were processed at the three-day consular outreach mission in Atlanta, Georgia, held from 26 to 28 July 2024 at the St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

The Embassy’s team, led by Consul Barbie Rosales, provided consular services, including the processing of 303 passport applications, registration of 208 overseas absentee voters, and the reacquisition of Philippine citizenship of 132 individuals. The consular team also went the extra mile by administering the reacquisition of Philippine citizenship of a Filipino national who was unable to attend his scheduled oath-taking ceremony due to medical reasons, at the request of his family.

“Our dedicated consular team not only served many Filipino nationals in the Peach State, but they also went above and beyond to assist even those who could not attend,” said Ambassador Jose Manuel G. Romualdez. “This reflects our strong commitment to ensuring that all Filipinos, regardless of their circumstances, can access our services and get the support they need.”

The Atlanta outreach also registered the highest number of transactions in an outreach paid by credit card and mobile wallets since the Embassy launched the e-payment system in May 2024. Fifty percent of the transactions were completed through digital payments, surpassing both cash and money orders.

“We are delighted to see e-payments become the preferred method for half of our transactions,” said Consul General Donna Rodriguez. “This shift not only reflects modern convenience but also highlights our commitment to adapting our services to the needs of our Filipino community.”

The Embassy thanks Honorary Consul General Raoul Donato, Fr. Sunny Punnakuziyil of the St. John Neumann Catholic Church, and the volunteers from the Filipino community who supported the consular outreach.

This outreach in Atlanta is the Embassy’s sixth consular outreach mission of the year.
