PIDCI Gears Up for its 35th Anniversary and the 127th Philippine Independence Day Celebration on June 1, 2025


New York, NY – As the Philippine Independence Day Council, Inc. (PIDCI) gears up for its 35th anniversary of hosting and organizing the largest Philippine Independence Day Parade and Celebration outside the Philippines, the anticipation is truly growing! This year’s milestone event promises to be more vibrant and inspiring than ever before. With this year’s theme “Embrace and Preserve Our Culture to Unite and Empower the Future,” participants and spectators alike can look forward to a showcase of traditional dances, music, and art that highlight the diversity and beauty of Filipino culture. The streets of New York City will come alive with a colorful procession of floats, performers, and community groups, all coming together to celebrate the rich tapestry of Filipino heritage and our 127th Philippine Independence Day.


In addition to the parade, attendees can enjoy a variety of cultural exhibits, food stalls offering authentic Filipino cuisine, and engaging activities for all ages. It’s a day filled with joy, pride, and a deep sense of community, where lifelong memories are made. About the Philippine Independence Day Council, Inc. (PIDCI)

The Philippine Independence Day Council Inc. (PIDC) is a nonprofit organization incorporated on February 14, 2002, best known for the biggest Philippine Independence Day Parade outside the Philippines, which is held first Sunday of June along Madison Avenue, together with an all-day Street Fair and Cultural Festival. These events are attended by about 100,000 predominantly Filipinos and Filipino-Americans from the New York tri-state area and Pennsylvania, visitors from neighboring states, and California, and Canada.

MWO-WDC Kickstarts Workers Education Series for Filipino H-1B Professionals in the US

The Migrant Workers Office of the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. (MWO-WDC) has kicked off its workers education series for Filipino H-1B workers in the United States on 22 February 2025 through the conduct of Post-Arrival Orientation Seminar (PAOS) for teachers.


WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Migrant Workers Office of the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. (MWO-WDC) has kicked off its workers education series for Filipino H-1B workers in the United States on 22 February 2025 through the conduct of Post-Arrival Orientation Seminar (PAOS) for teachers. H-1B workers are nonimmigrant professionals and skilled workers in specialty occupations in such fields as education, information technology, healthcare, finance, law, and accounting.


Eighty-eight (88) Filipino teachers from different parts of the United States attended the opening series, which focused on employee rights and obligations; recruitment regulations; relevant education laws covering safety and privacy of students; teaching protocols and useful tips for effective teaching; and programs and services of the MWO and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).


Dr. Ingrid Jomento-Cruz of Prince George’s County Public Schools, Labor Attaché Saul De Vries and Welfare Officer Mae Codilla served as resource speakers. Mr. Jo Mari Rifareal moderated the event.


The MWO-WDC will conduct in-person and virtual workers education program throughout the year targeting teachers, medical technologists, and other H-1B professionals. The program intends to capacitate Filipino H-1B workers on labor rights, employment regulations, and effective integration into various US work systems. The upcoming virtual education sessions are scheduled on March 15 and August 9, 2025 for medical technologists, and on October 4, 2025 for teachers. The schedule and venues of in-person sessions will be posted on MWO-WDC social media accounts.
